Before I get started, the sweatshirt I wore is one of my prized possessions. My brother makes cool tees and sweatshirts and this one is of him in cartoon form.

On Saturday The Urban Catwalk crew and friends shot a promotional video. For a couple of posts I've been alluding to a project I'm apart of, so let me answer a couple questions.

Q: What is The Urban Catwalk?

A: The Urban Catwalk is a conference, think street fashion meets academia, taking place at Yale next month.

Q: Kim, how do you fit into all of this?

A: I contribute to the blog, The Garage which is like the baby of The Urban Catwalk along with the founders Madison and Alex and another contributor named Sean. I'm appalled and frankly confused by your fashion sense in recent years, this is not to say that when you were in the height of your career it was any better. Let me explain. I had and still have an appreciation for your wackadoodle red carpet and stage looks. Take a look at exhibit A; in 2001 you and then boyfriend Justin Timberlake wore...wait for it, well you already know, matching denim ensembles! I know, I can't believe it either. Dude, it was a floor length denim gown with a sweetheart neckline with a matching denim evening bag. Really Brit Brit? Really? But let me tell you, it was so bad that it was good. Actually it was absurd but lets move on. It wasn't all bad, both 'I'm a Slave for You' and 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' VMA costumes were sexy and just f-ing fierce, for a reminder see exhibits B and C. So lets fast forward, after all the cooch flashing, shaved head and dating a pap; you have now resigned yourself to a uniform of of tanks and shorts (exhibits D). It's not good Brit, not good at all. And I won't get started on your weave, that's not really my place. Ok, take a look at exhibit E and I won't say another word. I hope you learned something from this; I am only harsh because I care. I have a new addiction and it's way less expensive than my shoe addiction (thank God). It's nail polish. In the last month I have bought more nail polish than I've ever had my whole life. So yesterday I painted my nails an obnoxious neon pink, then put glitter nail polish over that. Without me even realizing it I ended up with Barbie nails. I'm repulsed and drawn to these nails. I'm not the girliest person in the world so I think it works out.

Besides taking me to different parts of the city my job as a bookseller also takes me to venues I would never normally go. On Fashion's Night Out I worked at the ultra swanky aka so out of my price range Judith Leiber boutique on Madison Avenue. The store is absolutely gorgeous; when you enter the main show room you are met by sparkly little clutches behind glass. While working, Molly Sims came in and I was floored by her beauty; she's picture perfect and seemed so friendly. I later went downtown where there was a block party on Bond Street to say hello to a new friend who was working at one of the food tents, he was making Japanese pancakes; I should have tried some.

Side note, it's so overwhelming when the city is in such a blatant cluster f*ck, everyone and I mean everyone was on the streets that night, yikes!

I attended the Evolving Influence conference yesterday and it was interesting to say the least. Bloggers behind the Style Bubble, Street Peeper and more were talking about all the cool shit they're doing and I'm thinking wow that's awesome but I will never ever get to that level. I have to admit I felt a little dejected because to stand out among fashion blogs you must be a unique and beautiful snowflake*. Who deciphers that? I love sunglasses, between street vendors and my favorite stores (H&M, UO, Fred Flare, etc) I've amassed a few. They can easily provide a finishing touch to a look; I think that's why I have so many. Along with my sunnies I thought I would share my jewelry with you all. Some of the stuff I've made my self while working at an after school program like the beaded bracelets and the tooth pendant necklaces that are capsules given to the kids when they lost a tooth. Some of my new additions include a gold cuff and matching necklace and earrings that I got from an African store in Harlem.
